The Gap Between Policy and Practice
Enterprises and early-stage ventures in regulated sectors — public administration, finance and Fintech, health, compliance automation — face an acute structural paradox: extreme pressure to deploy generative and predictive AI to drive efficiency and unit economics, colliding with strict legal mandates demanding explainability, auditability, and data integrity under the EU AI Act, GDPR, DORA, and NIS2.
Existing academic frameworks operate predominantly at the macroeconomic policy level or on isolated algorithmic benchmarks, leaving practitioners without operational, decision-grade tools at the enterprise and venture level.
Attolloo's four frameworks were built to fill that space. They were developed and applied in practice, and grounded theoretically through an MBA with specialisation in Digital Business completed in 2026. What they do not yet have is independent empirical validation. That is the invitation on this page.
Three Open Research Questions
The methodology presents three empirical research gaps suited to joint academic publication and thesis programmes.
PREDICTIVE VALIDITY OF THE 6SENSE FILTER
To what degree do the six dimensions of the 6Sense Filter predict operational survival, capital efficiency (ROIC), and avoidance of regulatory sanctions in early-stage ventures?
Approach: longitudinal quantitative tracking and survival analysis across cohorts of early-stage ventures. Establishes criterion validity and determines how the dimensions should be weighted.
INTER-RATER RELIABILITY OF AI COMPASS
Does the five-tier AI Compass rubric yield statistically consistent maturity scores across heterogeneous evaluators — auditors, CEOs, researchers?
Approach: psychometric evaluation and inter-rater reliability testing (Cohen's kappa, intra-class correlation). Well bounded, and suited to a master's thesis.
HYBRID AGILE GOVERNANCE IN REGULATED CONTEXTS
How does the Track Synchronisation Protocol in Polaris Sprints resolve structural frictions between rapid agile software iterations and rigid compliance tollgates?
Approach: in-depth qualitative case study or action research, documenting governance interfaces across Norwegian public and private compliance frameworks.
Wider Research Themes
Beyond validating the frameworks, the Attolloo model raises questions that reach into organisation theory, entrepreneurial finance, and leadership research.
Four wider themes
TRUST ARCHITECTURE AS A GROWTH CONSTRAINT
When trust — from regulators, institutional customers, and the board — is the real growth constraint in a regulated AI venture, which mechanisms build and destroy that trust, and how can they be measured? Trust is well studied in organisation theory and institutional theory, but not as a measurable, manageable constraint in the Theory of Constraints sense.
EXECUTIVE-AS-A-SERVICE AS AN ORGANISATIONAL FORM
Executive-as-a-Service (EaaS) is the research term for what the rest of this site calls an executive partnership. Which governance mechanisms, incentive structures, and competence-transfer processes characterise the EaaS model compared with traditional interim management and venture capital governance — and which conditions determine whether the model creates or destroys value? Equity-based fractional executive leadership is almost absent from the academic literature.
COMPETENCE INVESTMENT AS AN ALTERNATIVE TO CAPITAL
Under which conditions does strategic human-capital investment substitute for financial capital in early-stage technology ventures — and how does that affect growth trajectory, survival rate, and value creation compared with traditional venture capital?
LEADERSHIP BEHAVIOUR IN THE AI GAP
What happens to a leader's cognitive load, decision quality, and risk perception in the gap between AI availability and AI integration — and which individual, organisational, and contextual factors determine whether that gap closes or becomes permanent?
Theoretical Anchors
The frameworks were distilled from practice first and grounded in theory second. The anchors that proved most directly relevant:
The theories behind each framework
OPERATIONS AND SYSTEMS DYNAMICS
- Goldratt's Theory of Constraints: the five-step continuous cycle and Drum-Buffer-Rope buffer governance, behind the Kando Framework.
- Nakajima's Total Productive Maintenance: Overall Equipment Effectiveness as an operational indicator.
- Ambidexterity and dynamic capabilities: Teece; O'Reilly and Tushman.
- Business model theory: Zott and Amit, behind the Polaris KPI architecture.
DECISION THEORY AND GOVERNANCE
- Dual-process theory: Kahneman and Tversky, System 1 and System 2 de-biasing, behind the 6Sense Risk dimension.
- Decision analysis: expected monetary value and pre-mortem audits.
- Incubation in problem solving: Sio and Ormerod's meta-analysis, behind the layout of Polaris working sessions.
- Information asymmetry: Akerlof, behind the 6Sense qualification logic.
- Stakeholder theory: Freeman, behind the ethical architecture of the EaaS model.
- Digital maturity and regulation: Westerman et al.; the European regulatory architecture (DORA, EU AI Act).
What Attolloo Contributes
ACCESS TO PRACTICE
- Research settings: Attolloo aims to make its engagements in Fintech, Regtech, and B2B SaaS available as research settings, where the ventures agree.
- Data from engagements, where available and agreed: sprint records, operational metrics, unit economics, and governance documentation.
ACADEMIC AND CURRICULUM VALUE
- Executive teaching: guest lecturing on AI governance, crisis intelligence, and operations management.
- Thesis supervision: co-supervision of student theses with real-world empirical backing.
- Joint publication and co-authorship.
What can be shared is agreed case by case with each venture. Personal data is handled under GDPR.
Where a Collaboration Could Start
A collaboration can start small, and take the form that suits the institution.
- A guest lecture or seminar on AI governance in regulated sectors.
- A student's master's thesis, for example on the reliability of the AI Compass rubric, with Attolloo as industry co-supervisor.
- A shared case for teaching or discussion.
Where it goes from there is for the partners to decide together.
Start the Dialogue
Attolloo welcomes contact from researchers, supervisors, and students at universities and business schools in Norway and the Nordic region.
